Plan Podcast Launch

To start a new podcast, you need to have the right hardware, such as a microphone, cords, cameras, etc. And you are also going to need the right software to help you launch and manage your podcast.

You are also going to need a solid plan on how to launch, manage, and grow your show fast. In this post, I’m going to focus on the software and the planning aspect of launching a podcast.

Choose a Specific Niche

The first step in planning your podcast launch is to define your niche. Choose a very specific topic to begin with.

More: How to Find The Best Podcast Niche.

This will help you create specific content that targets specific people, a smaller group of people. This will give you the opportunity to penetrate and build an audience faster.

For example, let’s say you are starting a podcast on “healthy diet”. A specific niche could be “Healthy Diet for women” and a more specific niche could be “healthy diet for women over 40” because generally the more specific you get when you are starting out, the easier it’ll be for you to find your people and build an audience faster.

Identify Your Closest Competitors

Next is identify your closest competitors.

Identifying podcasts similar to the one you are starting will help you learn more about the type of content that your listeners will appreciate. It’ll also give you insight into how to plan your podcast promotion.

Choose Your Episode Format

Next is choosing your podcast episode format.

Are you going to be interviewing people or collaborate with others, or are you going to do a solo podcast or a little bit of both? The decision on the format of your episode doesn’t have to be permanent.

You can start a solo podcast and later start bringing guests depending on the type of content your listeners prefer.

Create Your Listener’s Profile

Next is create your potential listener’s profile. There is a saying that goes “the one who understands the customer best wins”.

You shall know the average age of your listeners, their gender, where they live, their hobbies, where they spend most of their time online, the most common problem they want to solve, and what they want to talk about the most.

Knowing this information will help you speak directly to your listeners. You can speak their language and you can speak the way they do, and you can present the way they do. This will help you build that audience fast.

For example, I work with real estate investors and I learned that their most common language is buyers and sellers.

So, you should do research and build a profile of your potential listeners and know their language and other important information about them.

Have the Right Software

Next, you need to have the right software in place.

The first software that you need is audio recording and editing software. The software that I recommend, especially if you don’t have experience with audio editing, is to start with Audacity.

Audacity is a free audio editing software that will allow you to record audio. remove unwanted parts, remove background noise, add background music, adjust audio levels, and other cool features that you can use to create an amazing podcast episode.

Video Editing

Next, you are going to need video editing software. If you plan to do a video podcast.

There are many video editing software that you can use to edit your podcast episodes.

The best software you should use depend on your level of skills in video editing.

If you have experience with video editing software such as DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premier Pro, you can go ahead and edit your episodes. But if you have no experience in video editing, I recommend you start with software that is easy to learn and easy to understand.

And in this case, I recommend you start with Shotcut video editor. Shotcut is a beginner-friendly video editing software that you can easily use to edit your podcast episodes.

You can import your video, remove unwanted parts, add transitions, and other cool features that you can use to set up a nice podcast episode.

And the good thing is there are a lot of Shotcut tutorials on YouTube, so you can watch a few tutorials and learn all the basics that you are going to need to edit your podcast episode.

Intro & Outro

Next, you are going to need an intro and outro for your show.

Social Media

Next, you need to create social media profiles for your podcast.

Choose the social media platforms that your listeners spend most of their time on and create your profiles.

Social media is a great tool for promoting your podcast, so make sure you choose the platforms that your listeners hang out on.

Hosting Platform

Next, you need a podcast hosting platform. If you plan to do a video podcast, you can host your videos on YouTube, but you also need a podcast hosting platform that will automatically push your episodes to Apple Podcast and other podcast listening platforms.

There are many podcast hosting platforms you can use. I recommend you do some research and find the top ones such as Buzzsprout or Libsyn, and compare the features and choose the one that works best for you.

Promotion

Next, you need to have a promotion plan. You need to plan how to put your podcast episode in front of your potential listeners.
